2019 FAL-Q2 list

Hello Friends

I am going to be working on some things for quarter 2.  I will not be sewing much for the month of May so my list will be small.

-continue to finish a quilt a month.  This is working well for me.  I have a bunch of tops made that just need quilting.  I am hoping to get a few off to my long-armer friend soon.

-make the borders and corner stones for the Vintage Christmas quilt.  The blocks are made minus 1 that needs rick rack.  Hopefully by quarter 3 I can have this put together.

-organize sewing room.  I am hoping to remodel the master bathroom this year and get my clothes out of the sewing room so I can actually get my sewing items put away.

-finish my small swoon tablerunner.  This was made last year and needs to be finished!

Well, that is my list.  I don't have pictures of these things but I thought I would share my Easter bunny.

Hope you all have a blessed Easter.

2019 FAL-Q1 finishes

Hello Friends

Hope you are all doing well.  I want to share my finishes for the first quarter of the 2019 Finish-a-long.  Here is the list I made for my finishes.  And this is how I did:

-Finish a quilt a month.  So I should have 3 quilts completed.  How did I do?
I did it!!  I made 3 quilts using my late father's flannel shirts.  These will go to my sister, brother and Aunt.  But that is not all, I have another quilt finished!

This is the Milky Way pattern and was made for the 40th Anniversary of the company I work for.  The owner loved it!
I also got a quilt back from the long-armer but it needs binding.  Will add that to the list for next quarter.  I also finished 6 smaller quilts for Project Quilting.

-Word of the year quilt.  I did that too! And here it is!

- 12 blocks from the Vintage Christmas book.  I could not have possibly done those too!  Oh, but I did!

I have over 20 of the 42 done. :)

-Lastly,  did I organize my sewing space.  I have been working on that slowly and hope to have pictures to share next quarter.

I also worked on a new hand sewing project.  I am going to England in May and wanted something to work on while on the plane.  I am making a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt.  Here is what I have so far:

Also, I don't have a picture of it completed but I did put together my Missing U quilt top!

I am exhausted!  I did not realize I did so much!  What a great quarter!  I am hoping this continues on to the next.  However,  like I said, I am going to England for 8 days in May.  The whole month of May is going to be busy with my birthday,  Mother's day, Sam's graduation and our trip.  I am hoping to keep the momentum up!

Thanks for stopping by!

Edit: Note to self-read the rules of the FAL before making one big blog post about it. D'Oh! :)
I was able to enter twice but I should have entered every picture individually.  That is going to make me have to blog more. :)  Lesson learned for next quarter!

PQ 10.6 Chocolate Craving

Hello Friends!

I have been sewing a lot lately.  Mostly EPP but I will share that with you later.  This post is about the last project for this season of Project Quilting.  The challenge this week was Chocolate Craving.  I really had no idea what to do.  I was actually going to skip this one because I am quilting the flannel quilts I made with my father's shirts.  I just Googled chocolate quilts and a chocolate bunny showed up in my search.  I was going to make a pillow but decided on a little wall hanging instead.  And here it is:

This measures 8x8 and was made in Monticello WI.
The bunny was a scrap piece from my stash.  The floral background was purchased at Blue Bar Quilts in Middleton.  I just loved that floral and bought a yard to put in stash.  I love quilting from what I have on hand.
I will edit this post to share when and how to vote.
Big shout out to Kim and Trish for a great Project Quilting season!!!  Thank you both so much for all of your hard work.  You inspire us all!

Blessings!

PQ 10.5 Abecedarius

Hello Friends

Hope you are doing well.  I have been busy working on things lately.  I have decided to really work on an English paper piecing project.  I will show you more of it later.  It has over 2000 1 inch hexagons. :)  This post is about my Project Quilting piece.  This week the theme is Abecedarius or of the alphabet.  This weeks sponsor is Sam Hunter.  She created this book Quilt Talk.  I have used it to make my word of the year quilt for the last 3 years.  I love this book.  I love paper piecing.  I took these letters and copied them at 56%.  They are tiny.  All this talk about this and I haven't shown you a picture of what I made.  Here it is:

We pick on each other at work and say this all the time.  I thought it would be fun to put the saying to fabric.  Sam's book and letters were perfect for this.  The pillow measures 16x16.  It was made in Monticello WI.
That's all for now.  Voting opens on Sunday at noon if you care to vote for me. Edit:  I am number 20. :)

PQ 10.4 Pixel play

Hello Friends

This weeks challenge is Pixel play.  I made a pixel quilt for season 8 and was not feeling into this at all.  But, I gave in and 3 hours later I had this quilt.

I am sorry the picture is not the best.  It's all I had time for.  Since my move in May. I am trying to use up what I have on hand.  Those beads are something I've had for many years and I decided I needed to use them.  I am still sorting my sewing room and trying to decide what to do with all of the mini quilts I have made or received.  I just don't have the room for them anymore.

This piece is 17x17 plus 2 inches for the beads.  And, was made in Monticello Wi.

Voting opens Sunday.  Let me know if you need the link to vote.

Blessings

PG 10.3-Bigger than a breadbox

Hello Friends

This weeks Project Quilting challenge is Bigger than a breadbox.  There was an actual size restriction with this.  Your piece had to be more than 16 x 8.  I was not going to make something again because of time restriction.  My son will be 22 on Saturday and I have a house full of people coming Friday night.  Cleaning is taking priority.  But once the dishes were done and supper was made, I decided to try this bag.  My friend Natalie is the artist behind Sew Hungry Hippie.  She came out with this pattern a while ago and it's been sitting in my sewing room for months.  The Santorini Tote pattern is very clear if you have never made a bag before.  She has great pictures and the steps are easy to follow.  I have made many bags in the past.  This bag was like making an extra large zipper bag.  If you have never made a bag with a zipper, I recommend trying this pattern.  She gives you all of the tips and tricks to make it easy.
The smallest of details.  These zipper tabs are a must and really make the bag look professional.

The inside has shiny gold in the flowers.

As you can see, I used cork for the bottom.  It really makes the bag sturdy.  I did not use the foam that is calls for because I didn't have any.  Next time I will try it with the foam.  I just used fusible interfacing.  I also did not add a pocket.  I may go into this bag and put one inside later.  I love the size of this bag.  It measures 19 x 13.  The fabric and cork was purchased at Blue Bar Quilts.

Voting opens on Sunday.  Please look for my bag and vote!
Thanks!!
Blessings

Christmas gifts

Hello Friends!

I sure have been blogging a lot!  Hope you are sticking with me.  My son has been dating his girlfriend for over 2 years now.  She is a very sweet girl and we all love her.  They met on campus of UW Milwaukee.  It's just her and her mom now so we have kind of adopted her.  When I was a baby, my grandmother made me a felt beaded stocking.  Of course I don't have a picture of it right now, but I may post it later.  Whenever a new baby was born, they got a stocking.  She was working on my sister's stocking when she passed away.  My Aunt Sue took over making them.  My son's has a fishing theme.  Of course, I don't have a picture right now.  Sorry.  I made my brother in law one a few years ago. I am terrible!  No picture.  Maybe I should save this post for another time when I actually have pictures?  Nah!
So I decided to make a stocking for Iolanda:

She is an animal lover and loved this stocking.  I am so glad I took the time to make this for her.  The beading takes a while, but the actual felt part took longer.  Usually these kits come with the pattern stamped on the felt.  You just cut out the coordinating number and sew it on.  This kit had a few of those, but primarily I had to trace pattern pieces to the felt and cut out.  This took much longer than I expected.  I am so glad I started in November.  I have about 25 hours of work in this.  Some friends have asked for them, but I have had to decline.  By the time you average your time and money in them, you could not get your value from making them.

I have also been hoarding a pattern just waiting for the time to make these trees;

One of my local quilt shops was closing and I was able to buy a lot of fabric at a discounted price.  I made these 2 as gifts for friends.  I made 5 total.  They take a lot of time and patience, but were fun to make.

So, tell me, do you make commissioned pieces?  Do you get your value out of them?

Blessings
Amy
